Building on my earlier idea of a grid of faces smiling in unison, this is about how to present those faces in a more interesting way. The faces are projected on a number of helium balloons that float patiently to the side of the film. Faces should be easy to come by in the archive so it isn’t unrealistic. As with all good choruses they provide the emotional temperature and point us to the hero’s dilemma.
It is also a chance to explore alternative projection surfaces that are more akin to set design, as well as the possibility of motion tracking in isadora – ( I once made a monkey dance with the moon for a children’s dance piece). There is something very Georges Méliès about projecting floating heads in space.
The moon is similar but different to a Greek Chorus in that it plays a more singular narrator role. A number of times I have had the urge to represent my friend Carl from Wave Machines as a singing moon. This could be that opportunity.
